something I learned this week
Ancient Greeks like many of the Mediterranean cultures prided themselves on being “clean and beautiful” and would emulate the statues that were hairless
warriors and athletes would remove all body hair and oil themselves up before going to war or the Olympics
the 3 most common forms of hair removal were
1: plucking the hairs out with Tweezers made of Brass or Shells
2: using a Hot Oil Lamp to burn the hairs off
3: Straight up rubbing themselves down with Hot Embers from a Fire
also the most popular pubic hair style was “the landing strip” as depicted on vases (they drew so many naked people on vases)
this was for both men and women
remember this when you hear someone complain that
“Wonder Woman should have hairy legs and pits”
but isn’t she like.. not.. actually greek? like, an entirely different thing? idk.
